The Costa del Sol has so much to offer, whatever the season.  This Spring HPS organised a day's walking in the Alcornocales Natural Park, topped off with a great lunch in a former monastery.

Family Holidays

The sun and the beach are without doubt the two greatest attractions of the Costa del Sol.
Beaches with the best services are usually close to residential areas such as Marbella, Puerto Banus, San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona. Services may include deck chairs, showers and toilets, lifeguards, beach security and typical Spanish beach restaurants.  Water sports equipment can be hired on the beaches or in one of the many leisure ports.

Popular Family Activities and Destinations

These are some of the most popular destinations for days out with the family. Many of the attractions will hold children's interest all day.

  • Tívoli World at Benalmádena is probably one of the oldest and most complete fairgrounds in Spain containing wonderful gardens and thirty-six of the latest rides.
  • Torremolinos Aquapark. Facilities include: large sunbathing areas and numerous swimming pools. Also try the Parque Acuático de Mijas.
  • Parque de la Naturaleza SELWO at Estepona. This safari park has ecosystems from five continents in more than one hundred hectares, with organized tours by vehicle or on foot.
  • Crocodile Park at Torremolinos. This nature park is exclusively for crocodiles with species from Asia, America and Africa and include a giant crocodile from the Nile.
  • Benalmádena Sea Life Centre. It is the first interactive underwater park in Andalucía that allows you to walk across the bottom of the sea and gaze at almost three hundred thousand aquatic species from the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans and the Red Sea.
  • Escuela de Arte Ecuestre Costa del Sol at Estepona. There is a weekly equestrian show - a spectacular display of classical riding from the XVII century. There is also a Pony Club, which is a fun way for children to learn about horses and riding.
  • Sailing and Dolphins. There are many special excursions in the Costa del Sol where you can find and follow dolphins as they swim in their natural habitat.

Other Popular Destinations

Additional destinations for days out include:

Horsemen in the Real during the Málaga Feria, in the area reserved for stands. This is the day Feria
  • Benalmádena Cable Car. This runs to the peak, Calamorro. On a clear day, there is a fantastic view of the Rock of Gibraltar and the African coastline.
  • Local Fairs. The majority of the fairs that are associated with patron saints occur during the summer in the Costa del Sol. There is usually an organized 'romería' or procession where an effigy of the saint is paraded through the town, followed by a few days of celebration which can often include an open air dance at night. Frequently there are additional festivals from the end of August to the beginning of October, which are usually held in celebration of a natural product or the end of a wine harvest.

There are also art galleries and other cultural centres which may be of interest.
